News: “Blaze” to be featured in Sundance Film Festival

Ethan Hawke’s new film Blaze premieres at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah January 18-28. Blaze is a biographical drama based on the life of musician Blaze Foley. The screenplay was co-written by Hawke and Foley’s girlfriend, Sybil Rosen. Musician Ben Dickey plays Foley and others in the film include Alia Shawkat (as Rosen), Sam Rockwell, Wyatt Russell, Steve Zahn, Kris Kristofferson, and Richard Linklater. Charlie Sexton plays Townes Van Zandt.

Foley was an up-and-coming singer-songwriter (real name Michael David Fuller) until his untimely and tragic death in 1989. His music still has a huge following and numerous entertainers covered his songs. “If I Could Only Fly” became a hit by Merle Haggard and “Election Day” was covered by Lyle Lovett. John Prine covered “Clay Pigeons” on his Grammy Award-winning 2005 album Fair and Square. [Source]

News: “Lodge 49” Additional Cast

AMC announced Brent Jennings, Sonya Cassidy, Linda Emond, David Pasquesi, and Eric Allan Kramer have been cast as series regulars in the upcoming comedic drama “Lodge 49.”

They join Wyatt Russell, who was previously announced as playing the lead role of Sean “Dud” Dudley. Jennings plays Ernie Fontaine, a Navy vet, plumbing supplies salesman, longtime bachelor, working class Renaissance Man, and longest member of the Order of the Lynx, Lodge 49. Cassidy portrays Liz Dudley, Dud’s twin sister, who is smart, fiercely independent, deeply cynical, and searching for a way to escape her life. Emond plays Connie Mills, an old-school journalist and lover of words and smoke-filled taverns. She married her third husband, Lynx member Scott Mills, who brought her to Lodge 49.

Pasquesi will portray Blaise St. John, the resident philosopher of the Lynx. He tends bar at Lodge 49 and runs his own pot dispensary. Kramer plays Scott Mills, Long Beach Port Harbor Patrol officer and straight shooter, who enjoys his personal watercraft and playing drums in a surf rock cover band. “Lodge 49” is slated to air in 2018.

News: WWII Thriller ‘Overlord’ Set for October 2018

Overlord is hitting theaters next October.

The supernatural WWII thriller from Paramount and Bad Robot will be released wide on Oct. 26, 2018. It will open a week after Sony’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web adaptation and Warner Bros.’ Jungle Book: Origins take, and just ahead of Disney’s live-action Mulan and Fox’s actioner Dark Phoenix.

Wyatt Russell and Jovan Adepo star as American paratroopers dropped into enemy territory. As they approach their target — a Nazi-occupied village with a German radio tower — they realize that they are a part of something bigger than a simple military operation. They then take on supernatural forces as part of a Nazi experiment. [Source]

News: Wyatt Russell Was Born to Be a Movie Star

Recently, Wyatt Russell became the proud owner of a garden. The plot occupies the northern edge of his drought-tolerant side yard, surrounded by a chain-link fence and head-high hedges. The garden has shrubs and bushes, cedar chips and flowers. It’s a young man’s successful attempt at landscaping. It’s not done yet, either. “This was, like, a mud pit a month ago. I didn’t finish it, but this was all going to be decomposed granite patio,” Russell says.

We’re seated on either side of a fire pit, outside the unpretentious bungalow on a Silver Lake hill that Russell shares with his girlfriend, actress Meredith Hagner. Russell has a languorous surfer’s drawl: He sounds a lot like the stoners and layabouts he’s made his stock and trade in his short film career. But he’s more attentive than those characters — and, in all likelihood, a far more impressive amateur gardener. He recently laid the soil and the plants together with Hagner. News: Wyatt Russell on the Naturalness of ‘Folk Hero & Funny Guy’

The bond of male friendship is examined – and tested – in Folk Hero & Funny Guy, a short and sweet dramedy from multi-hyphenate Jeff Grace, who writes and directs. We meet comedian Paul (Alex Karpovsky) at the end of a tired stand-up routine in a beer-stained comedy club. Meanwhile, Paul’s childhood friend Jason (Wyatt Russell) has built a successful career for himself as a folk music star. Inspired over the course of a drunken reunion, Jason gets the idea to take Paul on tour with him. We had the opportunity to speak with Russell about the film, and one can read the full conversation below.

How did this all come together?

I came back from doing a film and I just read this movie that I thought was really good. And it had a musical element to it which is something I’d wanting to do. Because I play guitar, and it’s an important thing in my life. For myself. I’ve never done it for anybody else. Or played it for anybody else in a way of going ‘I want this to be a career.’ It was always sort of private but [the movie] was the first time I was like, ‘You know, this could be a cool thing for me to do and challenge myself to be able to play live and sing live.’ You know, there’s no hiding. That appealed to me a lot, so when I met Jeff [Grace], the director, I met someone who totally understood what they had written, had lived with it, and I knew that the movie was in good hands and that whatever performance came out of it was going to be in good hands so it was an easy decision after that.
